Copy of Lucky Sweep (Weddings)

The Lucky Sweep
Following an old tradition, chimney sweeps were asked to attend weddings as it was believed they would bring good luck to the newlyweds.

Sweeps at weddings.
In Great Britain it's considered lucky to see a chimney sweep on your wedding day. It is believed Chimney Sweeps bring good luck, wealth, and happiness.
Chimney sweeps are often requested to attend weddings to bring Good Luck to the newly weds.
Traditionally this is a gift arranged by a friend or relative.
In pursuance of this tradition Mark Fenton Sweep Services are proud to offer a Lucky Sweep Service for weddings.
The Lucky Sweep Wedding Package.
The Lucky Sweep booking is often bought as a surprise for the newly weds by family or friends.

I hide out of sight and appear at an appropriate time to greet the newly married couple and explain the tradition of a Lucky Sweep to them before presenting them with the lucky sweeps' handmade gift.

I am then available for formal photographs with the newly weds and also informal photos with the other guests.
We have found on most bookings that I spend around an hour with the married couple and guests for formal and informal photographs which naturally leads us to the time for guests being seated for the wedding breakfast. I am not on a timescale though and as we only accept one booking per day.

For prices and availability please get in touch using the online form at the bottom of this page.

Something unique, local and handmade.
We wanted to add something different to our lucky sweep package and as we are both creative people it naturally came in the form of a locally handmade and bespoke gift.

Using a local manufacturer I sourced wooden presentation boxes as a great way to present the gifts. Coal is the traditional present but we have also included a certificate, personalised for the happy couple and a beautiful handmade fused glass wall or window hanging.
The hanging was made by a local glass artist and is completely unique to the lucky sweep, we thought this gift was a great way of providing a permanent reminder of the day.
The lucky chimney Sweep tradition.
There is a belief that in 1066 King William was walking along a London street with his entourage when a carriage, out of control, headed straight for him. A chimney sweep happened to be nearby and pushed the king out of the way, saving his life. King William declared all chimney sweeps to be lucky and invited the chimney sweep to his daughter’s wedding.
Another long held belief is that in the 1700s King George II was riding his horse in a procession when a dog ran out from the crowd. The dog startled the Kings horse and the King lost control of it. A chimney sweep stepped forward from the crowd, caught the horse and saved the Kings life after which the sweep disappeared back into the crowd. King George could not thank the sweep personally so instead declared all chimney sweeps to be lucky.
